American Legion Post #752 & Sons of:

The Legion meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month, 6:30 pm at the Legion Hall. A turkey dinner with all the trimmings – is one of their events & is held in November with the Auxiliary helping & furnishing homemade pies.

American Legion Auxiliary Post #752

The Auxiliary meets the 3rd Monday of the month at the Family Kitchen in Pontiac at noon, except June, July, & August. New members may join in September when members renew their membership. The Auxiliary (along with Long Point Auxiliary) plays bingo with the veterans two times a year at the veterans home In LaSalle, IL. They also sponsor a home made ice cream Supper: sandwiches, side dishes, pie, & cake in July. There is an annual essay contest for students which is nationwide.

The Lions Club of Cornell

The Lions sponsor An Annual Fish Fry (the Best Fish ever) in March. The Easter Egg Hunt with prizes – Sat before Easter. Little League T-ball Summer Program. At Halloween, they have hot dogs & treats for the Children at the Legion. And in December they serve a Delicious Pork Chop Dinner with all the trimmings for the senior sitizens

The Red Hat Society – Colorful Cornell Red Hatters

The Red Hatters have 12 members and take monthly outings. The show bus delivers the ladies to each destination.
In January & February the meetings are held in someone’s home with half of the group hosting the group.
The Cornell Red Hatters were founded in 2004.

The Cornell Country Club Card Club

Founded in 1970 as a group of young mothers who wanted a night out with the girls and ~ everyone lived in the country. The gals meet the 3rd Thursday of the month – now in the afternoons. Each month one member is a hostess & she chooses where the group will meet, in her home or elsewhere. Everyone brings snacks for munching while playing progressive rummy. There about 10 members, but have had as many as 16.

Now a Meet & Eat as they no longer have Officers. They meet one Thursday a month.

The Cornell Birthday Club

Has 15 members and meets each month that someone has a birthday. They meet at the Family Kitchen in Pontiac, with the birthday person or persons choosing a convenient day for their birthday month. Everyone gives a birthday card to the birthday person (with $1.00 in the card)!

Amity Township Library Book Club

Meets and shares books they read. The books come from the Amity TWP Library.

4-H Clubs at Cornell – Cornell Classic Clovers & Cloverbuds (5-7 year olds)

They meet the 3rd Sunday of the month at the Cornell United Methodist Church
A Spaghetti Luncheon is held in February at the Legion.
Some of the many projects they do are:
Placing, planting, & decorating large cement planters in front of the Legion, Village Hall, & Museum
Yard Raking,
Making Seasonal Centerpieces for the dining tables on the Second Floor of Evenglow Lodge.
Donating essentially needed items to the Legion: drink containers, coffeepots, etc.
Christmas Goodie Bags for Senior Citizens at Christmas time. (during the Lions Club Senior Dinner)
Bell Ringing at Big-R during the Holidays.
